Happy New Year everyone! (Last site update: 4/1/2008)

For iTunes 7.5.x

Are you one of those people who thinks iTunes 7 fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down, and then got hit repeatedly with the ugly stick? If you are, then Aqua4iTunes can help!

Aqua4iTunes is a freeware program that allows you to:

  • Change the iTunes GUI to one of 5 window variations:
    • iTunes 6
    • Leopard UI (revised for 3.5)
    • Brushed Metal (revised for 3.5)
    • All Aqua - changes the buttons to system standard aqua or graphite buttons (revised for 3.5).
    • Aqua Shade
  • Use aqua or graphite button colors in any window style
  • Change the look of the iTunes icon
  • Uninstall at the click of a button if you want to go back to the default look.

Hundreds of resources have been carefully altered to restore iTunes to its former aqua self.

--v3.5 is compatible with iTunes 7.5 only--

What happened to 10.3.9 support?

Unfortunately, after upgrading my system to Leoapard, I have not been able to compile a working version for 10.3.9, despite changing compilers to gcc 3.3 and using the 10.3.9 SDK, clearing all the trgets etc etc. If anyone else has had similar problems or knows of a solution, please email me (see program docs or thhe programs about box).

You can still download the program and copy the required resource to iTunes.app/content/resources/iTunes.rsc until I find a way to fix it. Sorry about this.

My iTunes library has disappeared. What happened?

You have tried to install the wrong version of Aqua4iTunes for your version of iTunes.

Solution: Use the correct version of Aqua4iTunes for your version of iTunes as follows:

v3.5.x is compatible with iTunes 7.5.x only <download above>

v3.4.x is compatible with iTunes 7.4.x only <download above>

v3.3.x is compatible with iTunes 7.3.x only <available on request>

v3.2.x is compatible with iTunes 7.2.x only <available on request until end of Jan '08>

v3.1.x is compatible with iTunes 7.1.x only <obsolete>

How does Aqua4iTunes work?

Aqua4iTunes creates a backup of the iTunes resource and icon files before copying the new files for the style you select. Uninstall copies the backup files back to iTunes to restore the default look.

Can Aqua4iTunes be removed after use?

Yes! You only need it to install the files once. A backup of the original files is stored in /library/application support/Aqua4iTunes31/. However, Aqua4iTunes may need to be reinstalled after an iTunes update.

What if the installer fails?

Since 3.0.1, the installer is designed so that only one step of the install process has the potential to stop iTunes from working. If this goes wrong, the program will automatically try and restore the default look. You are also recommended to make a backup of iTunes and read the Aqua4iTunes readme file before using Aqua4iTunes.

Will the brush metal look ever look like iTunes 4.x?

No. Sorry. iTunes 7 constructs its windows differently and so creating the gradient background is not possible. Hence the flat look.
